GuideWell Appoints Mark McConnell to Lead Consumer Engagement Business

GuideWell Mutual Holding Corporation (GuideWell), the parent to a family of forward-thinking companies focused on transforming health care, has appointed Mark McConnell, president and CEO of Onlife Health, CEO for GuideWell’s portfolio of consumer-engagement businesses, including GuideWell Connect, Onlife Health and PopHealthCare.

McConnell has over 30 years of health care industry experience leading employee health initiatives, building mobile and digital assets for remote monitoring, and integrating numerous consumer tools, focused on health, wellness and disease-management.

In this new role, McConnell will identify innovative ways to leverage product and infrastructure integration, while creating opportunities to engage with members to improve overall health outcomes.

“Our consumer-engagement businesses are a key component in our company’s overall success,” said Sarah Iselin, executive vice president for government programs and diversified business for GuideWell. “As an extraordinary leader with an exemplary track record in driving growth, building strategic partnerships and implementing innovative, high-tech solutions, Mark is well-positioned to take our business to new heights.”

This group of companies is a critical component of GuideWell’s business-to-business consumer-engagement strategy and provides market-leading health and wellness products and solutions to health plan customers around the country.

• GuideWell Connect, the consumer and retail engagement business of GuideWell, provides full-service, integrated consumer engagement solutions for the health care industry. • Onlife Health, a subsidiary of GuideWell Connect, delivers end-to-end simplicity to population health and wellness, connecting and integrating people, technology and benefit design, guiding members on the “next right thing to do” in their healthcare journey. Based in Nashville, Tenn., and serving 13 million people through contracts with health plans and their employer clients, Onlife delivers digital member engagement and reward programs using technology and coaching solutions powered by analytics and behavioral science. The company offers wellness, chronic condition management, and tailored engagement to address gaps in care.

• PopHealthCare, which is a subsidiary of GuideWell, is a leader in risk adjustment and population care management and delivery of in-home care for individuals with complex needs. Members receive personalized medical, behavioral, palliative, and social care in the comfort of their own homes. Together, these companies are collaborating to provide solutions that help health plan clients and members better navigate their health care journey.

“I am honored to lead this incredible suite of companies,” said Mark McConnell, CEO of GuideWell Connect, Onlife Health and PopHealthCare. “Leveraging the shared capabilities of these three consumer-engagement businesses will allow us to deliver even more value to our clients and members, as well as further enhance the customer experience for health plan members throughout their continuum of care.”

McConnell joined Onlife Health in 2015 as chief revenue officer and was later promoted to president and CEO. His consumer-first approach combined with his experience leading various health and wellness companies led to increases in new member engagement, technology integration and the acquisition of the company.

Prior to his role at Onlife Health, McConnell served in senior vice president roles at AMC Health, a remote patient monitoring company; Healthways, where he founded the employer solutions group; and HealthFitness, where he was a member of the executive team that sold HealthFitness to Trustmark.

McConnell’s portfolio of leadership success also includes health plan manager at General Motors, where he was involved with value-based purchasing, disease management and supplier development efforts in coordination with the National Business Coalition on Health.

In addition, McConnell spent time as part of the mobile health strategy and development group with Verizon Enterprise Solutions.

McConnell has a bachelor’s degree from Muskingum College and a master’s degree in business administration from the State University of New York at Buffalo.
