Sanitas Medical Centers is expanding in Hillsborough County, adding four new primary care centers set to open in early 2020. The centers will offer a patient-focused and concierge-level experience that helps Florida Blue members and their families achieve their health and wellness goals. Patients covered by most Florida Blue plans will have unlimited $0 copay primary care visits and up to two urgent care visits per year at Sanitas.
The four new facilities will be located in Citrus Park, Lake Magdalene, Temple Terrace and Riverview, providing routine care, preventive care, chronic disease management and lab services. The county’s first full-service Sanitas Medical Center opened in 2017 on Hillsborough Ave. near Dale Mabry Blvd.
Substantial Growth in Florida
Sanitas Medical Centers is a joint venture between Florida-based GuideWell and Sanitas USA, a subsidiary of Colombia-based Keralty. Together they launched Florida’s first Sanitas Medical Center in late 2015 in the Miami-Dade area.
The Sanitas care model has grown dramatically since then. Today, 23 Sanitas Medical Centers serve more than 200,000 patients throughout South Florida, Central Florida and Hillsborough County. Expansion plans call for 34 locations across Florida in 2020, with additional facilities slated for Hillsborough County and South Florida.
More Time with the Care Team, Extended Hours, Telemedicine and more
Foundational to providing the unique Sanitas experience is a multi-disciplinary care team that’s also multicultural, reflecting the local community. The primary care physician leads the care team and spends more time with patients. To make it easier to access care, Sanitas offers weekend appointments and free mobile access to Sanitas doctors and care teams.
Another important element of the experience is tailoring the scope of services to patients’ needs, which often extend beyond traditional primary care services. Sanitas patients have access to nurses who specialize in different conditions, as well as nutritionists and social workers. Together, these professionals work individually with each patient to simplify their health care experience, coordinate with other providers, and manage their overall health.
Reduced Hospital Visits, Improved Wellness Checks and Lowered Costs
In its first three years, Sanitas has seen impressive results in its care of Florida Blue members – including 30 percent fewer inpatient admissions, 35 percent fewer outpatient hospital visits, and 20 percent fewer emergency room visits. At least 90 percent of Sanitas patients also received preventive screenings such as A1c levels and diabetes nephropathy. The medical group also has a 95 percent patient satisfaction rating while lowering the total cost of care by 17 percent.
The new Sanitas Primary Care Centers will be located at:
• Citrus Park – 12879 Citrus Park Dr., Tampa
• Lake Magdalene – 14821 North Florida Ave., Tampa
• Temple Terrace – 8793 N. 56th St., Temple Terrace
