Full Transcript: Pat Geraghty Thanksgiving 2020 Video Message Thanksgiving is a special time of year, and even more so now in a world that’s dramatically changed because of COVID-19. This is the perfect time to take stock in what we’re grateful for: Family, friends, neighbors and everyone else who brings something special to our lives.
I am thankful for all of those things and more, including the incredible GuideWell team. In a year where COVID-19 changed so much for our business, you quickly pivoted to make sure our members got the care they needed and learned how to stay healthy during the pandemic.
Our Thanksgiving celebrations will certainly be different this year because of COVID-19. They may be smaller, they may be socially distanced, they may even be virtual. It remains a critical time to be vigilant in our efforts to keeping the virus under control. But the reason for the season remains the same.
And speaking of the reason for the season, this is also the time for the annual Giving Tuesday campaign, which is December 1. It’s a day that started in 2012 simply as a way to encourage people to do something good. It has grown into an extraordinary opportunity to change the country one donation at a time.
This year has been difficult for nonprofits, who have seen a decline in contributions, had to cancel key fundraising opportunities and were forced to lay off staff members. But they’re still working hard to serve their communities. And their work is critical to our communities’ overall health.
From November 29 through December 4, you can help your favorite nonprofit receive $10,000 from our Foundation by going to Twitter and Instagram, using the hashtag FloridaGives and sharing why you’re grateful for that charity.
Since 2017, our foundation has donated $10,000 each to 15 nonprofits that do extraordinary work in helping people and communities achieve better health.
I encourage you to join me in this campaign. And I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving and enjoy this time with loved ones. If this year has taught us anything, it has reminded us to focus on what brings us joy. And that’s something to be thankful for on Thanksgiving and beyond.
